Meet Katherine Swanson
Major: Double major, mathematics and Spanish
Goal: Work in an organization’s international sector
Katherine’s involvement in Chi Alpha, a multi-denominational campus Christian fellowship, gave her the opportunity to get to know the campus and the world better.
On campus, she helps organize an annual community food drive. Through a Chi Alpha sponsored program, she spent a summer in Chile, and will return there after graduation to help lead mission work for her church. Afterward, she plans to work in the international relations arena as an administrator or translator.
Katherine gives credit to her Regents Scholarship not only for giving her the time and resources to pursue her goals, but for bringing her to WSU in the first place. The scholarship freed up time that otherwise would have been spent working a job, thereby allowing her to study abroad in the summer and devote time to volunteer work while still maintaining top performance in two majors.
The University was not at the top of her list at first, but when her Distinguished Regents Scholar award came through, she gave it a serious look, and decided to apply. Now, she says, she can't imagine having made any other choice.

“The scholarship allowed me to get involved and focus on my classes, to do a double major, to spend the time it takes to really invest in people.”
